Weekend Project #2: I found this little cupboard on the side of the road about a year ago. Thank goodness I was driving the truck when I spotted it! It goes next to our front door and it was just plain brown which was ok, but not great. A coat of glossy black is much better!

I hope everyone is having a good start to the new year! I would like to say thank you for stopping by to read my blog!! I really appreciate your time and kind comments. In the new year I have been doing a lot of resting and a little sewing, soup and muffin making and nesting around the house. The Christmas decorations are put away (except for the stray pine needle) and my camera has been found (on the second shelf of the side table behind some books). Now I am ready to start blogging a little more often. I have started to tackle a list of things that I want to do around the house and this table skirt was one of them. I found these instructions in a magazine at the doctor’s office. It shows how to make a fitted skirt for those glass top tables. I have had a rectangular table cloth on this table for a while. It had lots of fabric in the back and not enough on the sides. Oh, I forgot to mention that this table is a sidewalk scavenged piece from my neighbor. The rectangular cloth was a thrifted piece with a Crate and Barrel tag. Today was the day to get this project done! It was pretty easy and now the table looks neat and tidy instead of frumpy and lop sided.

The long holiday weekend was the perfect time to get out in the patio and get it ready for summer. With the help of a blower, soap and water, sponges and two kids wanting to earn allowance, we got it ready and have enjoyed several meals out there already. Just looking at these pictures conjures up many stories of how things ended up here in the patio. The sunflower painting was sitting by my friend Nicole’s garbage cans. I inquired about it and she said an elderly lady had painted it for her husband Brent after he had helped her with some work around her house. Nicole didn’t like it but Brent was having a hard time getting rid of it. I solved the problem by taking it and hanging it in the patio! Now hopefully everyone is happy. I really love the colors and the way it looks hanging on the wall there below the metal peacock. Oh! And the metal peacock is part of a pair and came to me via Dawn who was selling a house and found that these were being left behind. Dawn saved them for me and they seem right at home out in this cheerful mismatched little place that we love to spend time in.

Complete!

I feel like I have taken over one million pictures of this kitchen project. I have to say that my favorites are the ones below. We camped out in the living room last week surrounded by vast amounts of dishes, lazy susans filled with spices and a bag of potatoes on the coffee table. We either went out to dinner or had take out all week (I actually didn’t mind this part too much). Now the paint fumes still linger but the kitchen is usable and fresh looking. I am over the moon! I want to thank ALL the people who were involved in this project especially my dad, Jeff and Jose the Painter (phone number by request).img_4148completed kitchen

Deco hinges

img_3279img_3284img_3274The kitchen hardware story continues! I got an email from my aunt the other day. She found a box in the basement where my grandpa had his work shop. She looked inside the box and found twenty sets of these *FabUlouS* Art Deco hinges (genuine Buffed Kromoid none the less!). We will not be able to hang them up this year since we plan to paint first but they will be a perfect addition to our kitchen make-over!
