Wearable Whimsy

Today I worked at a garage sale benefiting a local art group. The items for sale were mostly jewelry and accessories. Look at these sweet little wooden earrings I scored! That is a lot of happy for two bucks!!

White Elephant Sale

The White Elephant Sale in Oakland is rumored to be the largest rummage sale in Northern California and I believe it! This past weekend I met my friend Lisa there for a day of treasure hunting at this famous sale. It benefits the Oakland Museum of California and has been running for over 50 years. It is best described as an enormous garage sale housed in an old warehouse with lots of junk but also lots of treasure. It is divided into sections such as books, toys, and electronics. I headed straight to the fabric and sewing areas of course! I came away with two bags filled with lots of treasures to make tote bags. I will be posting my finds within the next few days. They are being washed and dried at the moment so they look pretty in the pictures…

img_1929img_1928 Holly the gnome gnamer named these two Seymore and Frederick. Seymore was found at Salvie’s Boutique (aka Salvation Army). He is holding an umbrella and riding on a turtle. Frederick was our first gnome. I found him at a garage sale in Sacramento. On the bottom it says he was painted by Pat in 1976.
