Happy Halloween!

We have a mummy and the Mad Hatter living at our house today. Thanks to thrift stores, Avery’s costume came together just as she wanted. Bright and colorful with crazy patterns. Will’s took shape using long john’s and some cotton netting wrapped around and around. Have fun tonight!

Another tote for Mary

The peacock feather tote that I made for Mary last year was a little too small to fit all of her Art Docent gear so I made her a roomier one this year. I have made a bag out of this fabric before and while working with it, I get lost in these fabulous colors and the wild print. This piece was found at the Goodwill. I have enough fabric left to maybe make two more bags… Happy Birthday Mary!

*Pumpkin Love*

I’ve never met a pumpkin I didn’t like…

Pumpkin facts:
* The top pumpkin production states are Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and California.
* Pumpkin flowers are edible.
* The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.
* In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling.
* Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites.
* The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 1,140 pounds.
* Pumpkins are 90 percent water.
* Colonists sliced off pumpkin tops; removed seeds and filled the insides with milk, spices and honey. This was baked in hot ashes and is the origin of pumpkin pie.
* Native Americans used pumpkin seeds for food and medicine.

This post is an update on the thrift store crochet flowers that I wrote about a few weeks ago. To turn these in to brooches I simply trimmed off the copper wire “stem” and curled them up so there were no rough edges. I then sewed a pin to the back. These corsages can be pinned on a jacket, sweater or even a tote bag. They will be put into the Etsy shop soon.

I just came in from painting the owl banner. I am trying something new this time by using glow-in-the-dark paint (Rust-Oleum brand) that I got at Ace Hardware. I outlined the owl and the words and filled in the moon with the glow-in-the-dark paint. Will it *glow* tonight??? I will report back in the morning…
